Did you know Halifax is home of the Halifax Resolves — the first official action for independence by any colony in 1776? Look no further for that history adventure. Filled with wonderful historic attractions such as the Roanoke Canal and Roanoke River, Halifax County, N.C., offers visitors the chance to see many sites of great significance, especially related to the Civil War. Also home to Native American history and culture, in the heart and soul of the Haliwa-Saponi Tribe, visitors can get to know a big picture of American history throughout the Historic Halifax State Historic Site. Learn about the history of local transportation, power generation, and industrial history, all of which are celebrated at the Roanoke Canal Museum and Trail; or see how African American history is honored at the historic Rosenwald School and the Remembering Tillery Project, a resettlement community.
