April 12th is a big holiday for most right? Don’t individual’s barbecue, and invite folks over for a day of fun?

We aren’t talking about the 4th of July, we mean the first real Independence Day. Just like it says on the North Carolina State Flag, April 12th, 1776. North Carolina was the first colony to declare independence from Great Britain. Halifax County holds year-long living history events that recall, relive, and re-enact with absolute accuracy the colonial period. Encampments, demonstrating military and family life, bring the events of yesteryear to life. To this day, many 18th-19th century structures still spot the countryside, reminding visitors that history is a part of our everyday lives.

So come for a day and experience the wonders of Historic Halifax as you travel back through time.
