Finding Freedom: Freedom Seeking and The Underground Railroad in North Carolina

Come learn from panelists who will speak to the various, innovative ways in which freedom seeking narratives are being shared with local communities across North Carolina. Participants will hear from panelists that connect their work to art, history and culture. Breakfast and lunch provided for all attendees.

Panelists will:
• Share historical research findings related to the Underground Railroad in NC
• Reveal lesser known histories related to the Underground Railroad in NC and freedom seeking.
• Explore how creative resources can be developed and shared to educate the public around the Underground Railroad in NC
• Describe how grassroots community and arts groups are developing innovative programs and initiatives to connect people to Underground Railroad history and the African American Experience in North Carolina

This symposium is presented as an event of the NC African American Heritage Commission Freedom Roads initiative. It is presented in partnership with Halifax State Historic Site, Roanoke River Partners and The Museum of the Albemarle, and with support from the Conservation Trust for North Carolina and the Halifax County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
