The Town's Halifax Day event will begin at 6pm on Saturday, April 12th. There will be food trucks and a
FREE concert on the steps of the Historic Courthouse, followed by a patriotic laser light show!
The Town of Halifax celebrates this day each year because, on April 12th 1776, Halifax had the distinct
honor of hosting NC's Fourth Provincial Congress. Here, they adopted the Halifax Resolves, which
directed NC's Delegates to vote for independence in Philadelphia on July 4th that same year. Their
unanimous decision that day made it the first official action taken by a colony, thus solidifying Halifax's
place in history as "The Birthplace of American Independence".
