On Saturday, October 17th, Sylvan Heights Bird Park will celebrate the grand opening of Penguin Point, a new exhibit that will immerse visitors in the world of the charismatic African penguin. Coinciding with the park's 20th anniversary celebrations, the official launch of Penguin Point marks one of Sylvan Heights’ largest new attractions since the center first opened in 2006. Visitors can look forward to encounters with African penguins in a setting that closely resembles their natural habitat along southern Africa's rocky coastlines. A dive pool with observation glass will allow guests to watch the penguins' behaviors and agility in their underwater world, while scheduled penguin feedings and educational presentations from bird keepers will enrich the experience for guests and further connect the public with these critically endangered birds.
African Penguins are naturally adapted to warmer, temperate climates, and are ideally suited for an outdoor exhibit at Sylvan Heights Bird Park. The park is excited to share the story of these important birds with park guests, while contributing to global African penguin conservation programs.
