The HCCVB was delighted to become a part of the matching fundraising challenge for the Penguin Project at Sylvan Heights Bird Park.
Scotland Neck, NC - The Halifax County Convention & Visitors Bureau was delighted to become a part of the matching fundraising challenge for the Penguin Project at Sylvan Heights Bird Park.
In November 2023, Sylvan Heights supporters Keith and Sandra Rogers initiated a $100,000 matching fundraising challenge, which will allow Sylvan Heights Bird Park to resume progress on a new exhibit to feature penguins. If the challenge is met, the Rogers will match the $100,000 raised. Initial fundraising for this new exhibit began in 2018, but the project was paused in 2020. The first phase of this new exhibit, which includes a penguin habitat, will cost approximately $250,000.
Lubbock the Director of Operations at Sylvan Heights Bird Park stated “Sylvan Heights Bird Park is very grateful to Halifax County Convention & Visitors Bureau for its contribution towards the match to help us bring penguins to the park. We are not only excited about having penguins but are looking forward to the increase of visitation that will be coming to Halifax County to see these unusual birds.”
Lori Medlin, President and CEO of the Halifax County CVB stated, “This sponsorship will contribute to the $100,000 matching challenge and help Sylvan Heights complete phase one of the exhibit which includes a penguin habitat. Research shows that visitors will travel to view Penguins. Sylvan Heights will create a healthy exhibit that the whole family can enjoy.”
