WELDON, NC
Every spring Striped Bass, or Rockfish as they are known locally, travel up the river from the Albemarle Sound to Weldon, NC to spawn, providing anglers months of tight lines every time. Striped bass may be caught and released March 1 through June 30, but keeping them is limited. For the 2021 harvest season, North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission has reduced the open harvest dates to April 24-30 in the upper river zone (upstream of the Highway U.S. 258 bridge at Scotland Neck to the base of Roanoke Rapids Dam).
