Halifax County Horse Country
Located in Northeast North Carolina, adjacent to I-95, Halifax County has a lot to offer the horse enthusiast and those traveling with their horses.
Medoc Mountain State Park offers approximately 10 miles of bridle trails. These trails provide rolling terrain and follow a portion of beautiful Little Fishing Creek. Bridle trailhead parking is available just off Medoc Mountain Road. All visitors with horses must be able to provide proof of a negative equine infectious anemia (Coggins) test while visiting North Carolina State Parks. Equestrian exclusive camping is also offered at this state park. Five primitive campsites are located along the bridle trail. Each campsite offers a picnic table, tent pad, and fire ring.
The 4-H Horse & Livestock Complex is open to the public for use anytime. Stalls and RV hook-up sites are available for rent for $15/night. Bordered by open farmland and scenic Quankey Creek, trail riders can enjoy several miles of winding, wooded trails. The Halifax Fun Horse Show Series offers family-oriented days full of entertainment. This show series brings equestrians and horse lovers together to enjoy a relaxed day of games on horseback. These shows welcome riders of all ages, levels, riding disciplines, and all breeds of horses. Ribbons are presented to contestants coming in 1st through 6th place. Classes will include games such as flag race, ring spearing, laundry race, poles, and barrels. The games will vary at each show, so you never know what you might see.
